  1. India has overtaken Japan to become the world’s third-largest solar power generator in 2023, according to a report by the global energy think tank, Ember. 
  2. The 5th “Global Electricity Review” report published by the United Kingdom-based global think tank Ember said that India, which was ranked ninth in 2015, jumped to third position in 2023, overtaking Japan. 
  3. India generated 5.8% of its electricity from solar and produced a record 5.5% of global electricity in 2023.  
  4. India generated 113 billion units (BU) of solar power in 2023 compared to Japan’s 110 BU.According to the International Energy Agency's 'Net Zero Emissions' scenario, solar would increase to 22% of global electricity generation by 2030. 
  5. As part of its national plan to fight climate change, India has committed to achieving 50% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030. 
  6. India is one of the few countries planning to triple renewable capacity by 2030.
  7. According to the 2024 World’s Wealthiest Cities Report released by Henley & Partners and New World Wealth. Mumbai and Delhi have secured positions among the top 50 wealthiest cities in a global survey of wealth distribution. 
  8. Mumbai, ranked 24th on the list out of 50, boasts a significant affluent population with 58,800 millionaires, 236 cent millionaires, and 29 billionaires. The city has experienced an impressive 82% growth in millionaires from 2013 to 2023. 
  9. Delhi, securing the 37th position has 30,700 millionaires, 123 centi-millionaires, and 16 billionaires., Delhi has witnessed a remarkable 95% growth in millionaires
  10. Joint Military exercise between India and France to be held at Umroi, Meghalaya from May 13-26.
  11. It is a biennial exercise which started in 2011 and is conducted alternately in India and France. 
  12. This will be the seventh joint exercise which will be held in India. 
  13. The 6th edition of the military exercise Shakti was held in France from 15-26 November 2021. 
  14. 90 personnel of India are represented primarily by a battalion of the Rajput Regiment besides personnel from other arms and services. 
  15. The French contingent comprising 90 personnel will be represented mainly by personnel from the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE).
